नवलपरासी — नवलपरासीको सुनवल नगरपालिका–१२ भुमहीमा गएको माघ महिनामा भएको भीषण आगलागीपछि दमकलको अत्यावश्यकता महसुस गरिँदा नगरपालिकाले दमकल खरिद गर्नुको सट्टा एकैपटक दुईवटा स्कार्पियो गाडी खरिद गरेको विषय विवादको केन्द्र बनेको छ।
रमग्राम र बर्दघाट लगायतका नजिकका पालिकाबाट ल्याइएका दमकलको सहयोगमा आगो नियन्त्रणमा आएको भए पनि, सुनवलमा दमकलको अभावले ठूलो जोखिम निम्त्याएको थियो। त्यसयता स्थानीय बासिन्दा र जनप्रतिनिधिले दमकल खरिदको आवश्यकता उठाएका थिए।
तर, नगरपालिकाले आर्थिक वर्ष सकिन तीन महिना बाँकी रहँदा १ करोड २२ लाख रुपैयाँ खर्चेर स्कार्पियो क्लासिक एस मोडलका दुई वटा गाडी खरिद गरेको छ। नगरपालिकामा एउटा गाडी पहिल्यै रहेको अवस्थामा किन दुईवटा नयाँ गाडी खरिद गर्नुपर्ने भन्ने प्रश्न उठेको छ।
स्थानीय बासिन्दाले एम्बुलेन्स र दमकलजस्ता अत्यावश्यक सेवाका साधनको प्राथमिकता दिनुपर्नेमा जनप्रतिनिधिहरू सुविधाभोगी बन्दै गएको आरोप लगाएका छन्। बजेट अभावको कारण लागत साझेदारीमा खानेपानी आयोजना, विद्यालय भवन निर्माणजस्ता योजना रोकिएको समयमा लाखौँ खर्चेर सेवा परामर्श, तालिम तथा प्रशिक्षणका नाममा रकम खर्च गरिएको भन्दै सामाजिक सञ्जालमा तीव्र आलोचना भइरहेको छ।
प्रमुख प्रशासकीय अधिकृत शेषकान्त पौडेलले नगरसभाबाट स्वीकृत बजेटअनुसार गाडी खरिद गरिएको स्पष्ट पारेका छन्। तर, नगरबासीहरूले जनप्रतिनिधिहरू जनसेवा भन्दा व्यक्तिगत सुविधा प्राथमिकतामा राखेको भन्दै असन्तुष्टि व्यक्त गरेका छन्।

Suryabinayak Municipality Buys SUVs Instead of Fire Truck, Sparks Public Outrage
Nawalparasi — After a devastating fire in ward-12 of Sunwal Municipality, Nawalparasi last year, the urgent need for a fire engine was strongly felt. However, instead of purchasing a fire truck, the municipality controversially bought two Scorpio Classic S model SUVs at a total cost of NPR 12.2 million.
During the fire, assistance from fire brigades of neighboring municipalities like Ramgram and Bardaghat was necessary to control the blaze. Locals and municipal representatives had since raised demands for a dedicated fire truck, but the recent purchase of two new vehicles — despite the municipality already owning one — has triggered widespread criticism.
With only three months remaining in the fiscal year, citizens have questioned the municipality’s decision to prioritize luxury vehicles over essential emergency equipment like ambulances and fire trucks.
The municipality has cited budget allocation approval by the municipal assembly for the vehicle purchase. Chief Administrative Officer Sheshkant Paudel defended the decision, stating that the procurement was done according to the sanctioned budget.
However, residents argue that during a time when budget constraints are cited for halting critical cost-sharing projects like water supply systems and school buildings, spending millions on non-essential items shows that elected officials are more interested in personal comforts than in public service. The controversy has gained significant traction on social media, reflecting growing public dissatisfaction.
