Kathmandu, March 8: Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has said the women’s struggles and movements waged for rights should be emboldened to end injustice in society.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 115th International Women’s Day today, former Prime Minister Khanal said further effective struggles are imperative to put an end to violence against women and build a gender equal society.

He wished peace, prosperity and happiness to all women on this occasion. “It is a historic day today which is marked by the women’s struggles waged for their economic, political and social rights,” the former PM reminded, adding that the women’s movements have brought significant changes including rights and equality in the country and abroad.

The 33 percent participation of women in federal parliament and some 40 percent at local level were ensured due to the untiring struggles of the women. It is a huge political achievement in deed. Once the women and men enjoy equal treatment, it helps reach socialism, according to him.
