The Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) has drawn the attention of Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on the issues of contemporary environmental issues. NEFEJ has been advocating for environment protection and sustainable development for long.
A NEFEJ delegation reached the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Thursday and met Prime Minister Dahal. The delegation also submitted a memorandum on the pressing issues of environment and climate.On the occasion, PM Dahal said the government was committed to provide support to the activities forwarded by NEFEJ, adding it had been advocating on the issues of environment for a long time in Nepal.
Saying the climate change is the issue of serious concern not only of Nepal but of the entire globe at present, the memorandum mentioned that Nepal is in the top row among countries impacted by the climate change.”Even though Nepal does not have role in climate change, it is bearing serious impacts. The impacts of climate change on economy, physical infrastructures and nature in Nepal may turn riskier in the days ahead,” the memorandum further read.
More0ver, cases of natural disaster occurred in Manang, Mustang, Sindhupalchowk (Melamchi) as well as other places have clarified the extreme impacts of climate change and new challenges are emerging every year posing threats to people’s livelihood, food security, bio-diversity, drinking water and agriculture.
On the occasion, it was informed that NEFEJ was playing an active role to create public awareness on environment protection and sustainable development for 37 years through various media. The delegation comprised noted journalist Bhairav Risal, NEFEJ Chair Roshani Adhikari as well as office-bearers.
