Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the federal democratic system of governance has been possible in the country at present because of the sacrifice made by the martyrs. Garlanding the Martyr’s Monument at Lainchaur today on the last day of the Martyr’s Week, he recalled that a big political change has become a success in the country due to the self-less sacrifices and the dedication of the martyrs.
PM Deuba urged one and all to contribute from their respective places for fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs, adding that the rule of law and political change has been possible as a result of the martyrs’ contribution.
Reiterating that the government was committed to building a prosperous nation as envisioned by the martyrs, the Prime Minister directed the bodies concerned to prepare a record of the true martyrs.”The upcoming goal of the nation is to steer it ahead towards advanced country, strengthening the democracy and federal governance system by institutionalizing the political change,” PM Deuba said.At the commemorative event, Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya recalled establishment of democracy was possible in the country due to the sacrifices of the martyrs.
Home Minister Balkrishna Khand and Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi were among the limited number of officials present on the occasion due to the risk of COVID-19.The morning procession which was a regular feature of the Martyr’s Day programme was not held this year over the risk of the pandemic.This year’s the Martyr’s Week has been concluded by organizing a brief programme at the Martyr’s Memorial at Lainchaur.
KMC has been marking Magh 10 -16 of the Nepali calendar each year as the Martyr’s Week during which the martyrs are remembered, paying rich tribute to them at various events.
