Commuting within couple kilometers need about an hour easily if not 2-3-4 hours. Population has increased drastically so as vehicles & other sorts of transportation so crowded it’s beyond control & imagination. Question is what next ?
City like Kathmandu if exceeds by 1 million population needs subway system. At present there is around 4-5 million people that constitutes from city/suburbs/dynamic flow of migrants from other cities on & off tourists from the abroad and in-house in Kathmandu city. Definitely that demands at least 5 times expansion in all sectors. It’s widely known that initially city was designed only for 200,000 residential areas.
So urgency is there, highly recommended to go with new town planning as diversion then connecting commute system of old Kathmandu city & new Kathmandu city. Other option is to create infrastructure of subway net working system expanding and connecting city state highways/ street/ lanes carefully studying population densities in each area and people’s commuting behaviors as required.
If we don’t act promptly for this existing commute system, it will heavily impact on peoples life & will be regrettable with huge health hazards, poor life safety, pollutions, psychological impact with unexpected distresses on people.
Technically current commute system is failing & if this trend will continue enitre existing infrastructure of social, economical, environmental & logistic may collapse in near future in the Kathmandu City!
It’s time to act!!!
