Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has urged one and all to use and thereby promote local handicrafts. At a programme organized here today on the 50th anniversary of the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal and 10th Handicraft Day, Vice-President Pun said that the government should accord high priority on handicrafts. “Government should accord highest priority to handicrafts that have been successful in maintaining identity of Nepal in the international area and have aided in creating jobs and eliminating poverty,” Pun reiterated.
The VP also appealed with all the government agencies to use domestic handicrafts. He asserted that the export of handicraft had been playing an important role in reducing trade deficit.
Similarly, Federation’s President Surendra Bhai Shakya viewed that cooperation and collaboration was needed from all three governments to revitalize the handicraft sector that was hit hard following the outbreak and spread of COVID-19. He shared that various events would be held during the golden jubilee year of the Federation including seminars and conference among others.
Likewise, Federation’s vice-chair Rabindra Shakya said a Handicraft Policy should be formulated for the development and promotion of handicrafts. On the occasion, Federation’ founder president Sagar Shumsher Rana, founder member Motilal Shilpakar and best exporter of handicrafts Maheshwor Shrestha, Sunita Sherpa and Naresh Lal Shrestha among others were honoured.
