Damak, Sept 28: Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport Devendra Dahal condemned the misleading publicity surrounding constitutional amendment.According to him, the propaganda was being spread to mislead people regarding amendment of the national charter. It would undermine people’s rights, he argued.

At a programme organized by the CPN UML’s Damak Town Committee to exchange festival greetings in Damak, Jhapa, Minister Dahal assured that the indispensible provisions enshrined in the constitution such as proportional representation, inclusiveness and federalism would not be compromised.

The Minister, however, saw the need for revising the current electoral system so as to address the concerns of women and indigenous communities in the direct election system. Minister Dahal, who is visiting his hometown for the first time since he assumed office, asserted that the constitution would be amended based on the suggestions of the general public.

He clarified that constitution could not be revised at mere will of a party. It would rather be considered by forging consensus among all political party. Urging party cadres not to go by any rumours, he underscored the importance of all major parties to come on board for the greater good of the country.
