Ruling coalition candidate Ramchandra Mandal has been elected the Speaker of Madhes Province Assembly. Mandal got 74 out of 103 votes from among the members attending the province assembly meeting on Tuesday. His close contender received 29 votes.

Earlier, he was elected the province assembly member on behalf of the CPN-UML from Dhanusha constituency 1(2). Mandal garnered support from CPN-UML, Janata Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, CPN (Maoist Centre), Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Federal Socialist Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Jangilal Roy Yadav from the Nepali Congress was also in the race of the speaker. CPN (Unified Socialist) had supported the NC candidate. The province assembly meeting has been postponed up to 6.00 pm today. The meeting to be held in a while would elect the Deputy Speaker of the province. It is informed.
