Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Uma Regmi, has said the Ministry will not meet its target in absence of allocation of required budget to it. “The Ministry is getting minimum budget that’s why it has failed to meet its expectations and targets.”
She took time to claim the optimum utilization of available resources, adding the size of Ministry budget is smaller than of the metropolis/submetropolis budget. The Minister was giving replies to queries raised during the ministerial-wise deliberations under the Appropriation Bill-2079 BS.

In her replies to the lawmakers’ views of according priority to the establishment of birthing centers and expanding their coverage instead of implementing an aerial rescue programme for expectant mothers, the Minister said the establishment of sufficient numbers of birthing centers had not been possible due to budgetary constraint. On the occasion, she said the Ministry programmes are focused on providing socio-economic opportunities for indigent community and single women, empowering them economically and supporting their livelihood.

Besides, the Ministry is supporting those women wishing to seek career in entrepreneurship and the Women First Programme is expected to be helpful in achieving women’s meaningful participation in each state apparatus, according to the Minister who on the occasion pledged to take corrective measures targeting night-shift working women. “The cooperation of Nepal Police will be sought to make their travel to home after duty safe. “

She added the budget has been allocated for rescue and medical treatment of street and vulnerable children. “We plan to launch a campaign against drugs abuse, cybercrime and early marriage,” she said, adding that necessary process had already kicked off for establishing
