Myagdi- Myagdi district headquarters, Beni Bazaar, has been at high risk of erosion with the flood-fed Kaligandaki washing away the embankment. The swollen Kaligandaki River took away a swathe of embanked land behind Beni municipality-8, Sangamchowk and along the Kalipul Bus Park area. Campus Chowk Tole Sudhar Samiti Chair Thakur Sharma said the swollen river took away over 30 meter of the embankment and caused erosion towards the market area.
“The flood has broken down embankment and has started eroding land towards the market area”, he said, adding, “It would cause further damage to Beni Bazaar if the flood was not brought under control timely”. A cemented and gabion walls have been under construction along the Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers banks for the protection of Beni Bazaar through Rupatal Integrated Development Project.
