Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri has said that the role of community along with the government was vital in preserving historical, archeological and cultural heritages. Inaugurating and handing over the reconstructed historical, cultural and archeological heritage at Teku Pachali premises on Thursday, Minister Jhakri said that such heritages could be sustained only if we develop an appropriate way of operation. The role of government won’t complete after handing over the heritages.
On the occasion, Minister Jhakri stressed the need for co-work among the stakeholders to prevent the encroachment of the rivers and rivulets in the Kathmandu Valley. She also argued that the rivers in the Valley should not be mixed with the drainage to safeguard the Bagmati civilization while stating that the government was working to that end even by accepting loan assistance.
The unmanaged settlements on the riverbanks should be replaced and the government would ensure safe housing to the real squatters, according to Minister Jhakri. On the occasion, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan, Chairman of High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization Uddhav Prasad Timilsena, former chief secretary Leela Mani Paudyal and others argued for government-community partnership for the conservation of heritages and development of a civilized city.
